The Teacher, or The Shapeless One, is a placeholder name for a Vampire from Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas. The Teacher belongs to the De Sade aristocracy - being the grandfather of Dominique, Veronica and Louis - and is widely feared by many. Furthermore, The Teacher serves as a mentor and father figure to Noé Archiviste - an orphan whom he purchased off the black market and reared in the forests of Averoigne. Recently, The Teacher has received word that The Book of Vanitas was in Paris, and as a result he directed Noé to journey to Paris aboard La Baleine in order to discern the true nature of The Book of Vanitas - though his motivations for doing so remain unknown.

History Edit

Also known as "The Shapeless One" due to the frequency with which he changes his name and form, Noé's teacher was the first vampire to serve the Queen and did so for the longest duration[1]. Afterwards, he gave his titles and land to his adopted children and retreated to live in the country, where he was eventually joined by his grandson, Louis, when the latter was sent away for being a curse-bearer. He later bought Noé at an auction and brought him to live with Louis at their residence and was responsible for killing Louis when he fell prey to his affliction.

Louis de Sade Edit

Louis was The Teacher's grandson and lived with him in a countryside in Altus. Some time after Noé's arrival, The Teacher purposely left notes containing information concerning curse-bearers for Louis to find, leading to a confrontation where Louis accused his grandfather of having an ulterior motive. He denied this and stated that he simply wished to observe the results of Louis' will. After this, Louis began to behave strangely, fashioning stakes and avoiding The Teacher. When Louis ultimately succumbed to his curse and attacked Noé, it was his grandfather who beheaded him.[2]
