Statice (スターチス, Sutātisu) is a song from Jun Mochizuki's Pandora Hearts. It is a piano piece composed by Elliot Nightray. The name comes from the flower, which prompted Elliot's best friend Leo to tease him for knowing flower language. After encountering one another by chance and forming a friendship as equals in that time, Elliot decides to gift the song to Leo. Statice then becomes representative of the unique bond shared only by Elliot and Leo.
After Elliot had composed Statice for him, Leo in turn gifted Elliot his own original composition: "Lacie." It was a song at once entirely original yet only ever taken from a memory, as Leo is the next incarnation of Glen Baskerville, meaning the memories of the previous Glen Oswald will bleed into his consciousness. After being gifted the song, Elliot nearly died and could only be saved by Illegally Contracting the Chain Humpty Dumpty, causing his memories to be tampered with. Elliot falsely believed that he composed the song "Lacie," and Leo, trusting Elliot's word over his own mind, began to believe he was slowly losing sanity. Thus Leo became incredibly isolated and didn't seek help, even when he saw danger beginning to approach Elliot.

History[]
With Bernice Nightray's birthday fast approaching, Elliot began his composition of Statice with the intention of presenting it to her as a gift - a tradition which he had maintained annually for quite some time. As such, Elliot named Statice, after his mother's favorite flower.
Not long after composing Statice, Elliot was brought to Sablier and the House of Fianna by his two elder brothers, Claude and Ernest Nightray. While Claude and Ernest were speaking with Mrs. Finn , Elliot wandered off on his own, only to come across a boy with shaggy hair and a snarky attitude, reading alone in The House of Fianna's library. The fact that Leo was able to shrug off Elliot's title as an heir to the Nightray Dukedom prompted Elliot to continue returning to Sablier in order to interact more with Leo. Despite their constant arguments, Elliot grew to like Leo more and more after the two connected through their mutual love of music. Leo eventually became Elliot's personal valet, though was more of an equal in his master's eyes. In the end, Elliot ultimately decided that Statice better suited Leo, and so he offered it to Leo as a gift rather than presenting it to his mother. To further their bond, Leo eventually returned the favor by presenting his own composition, Lacie, to Elliot as a gift later on.
When Elliot told him the song's title, Leo cited its meaning in flower language — "forever unchanging" — and teased Elliot for knowing it, claiming it's "kind of wimpy". He also poked fun at Elliot for gifting it as a "proof of eterntal friendship", saying it was corny.
Unfortunately, due to his Illegal Contract with Humpty Dumpty, Elliot's memories were warped so that he forgot that he had composed Statice - instead believing that Lacie was his own composition, which he intended to give to his mother as a gift on her birthday. Though Elliot regained his memories in the end, including those in relation to Statice, his tragic ending meant that he could never again play such beautiful melodies.

花 言 葉 (Hanakotoba), and some meanings are different from English flower language. In this case, the Japanese meaning was used for statice — the English meaning being "memory" and "remembrance", as well as "success" and "sympathy".- In Japanese flower language, each color of the statice flower has its own meaning. Based on the definition "forever unchanging", the one chosen by the author was a pink statice.
