The Nightray Uncle was a member of the Nightray family long before the initial plot of Pandora Hearts. He was murdered by Vincent Nightray and Demios when Demios decapitated him sometime during the ten years that Oz Vessalius was trapped inside of the Abyss .

HistoryEdit

The Nightray Uncle was brought into the Nightray Dukedom when his older sister married the Duke of the Nightray family, Bernard Nightray. He stoodby his sister when she gave birth to Bernard's five children, Fred , Claude, Ernest, Vanessa and Elliot Nightray. However, while Elliot was still young, Bernard permitted a commoner who had been found before the Nightrays' Door to the Abyss to join the Nightray Family as Bernard's adoptive son. This upset the Nightray Uncle, who believed that Vincent calling himself a Nightray when he was not an actual part of their lineage was disgraceful.

Things grew worse following the Coming of Age Ceremony of Oz Vessalius. Oz had been cast into the Abyss by the Baskervilles during the Ceremony. Gilbert, Oz's valet, was grief stricken because he was unable to protect his master, and so he ran away from the Vessalius family, where he found Xerxes Break. Break convinced Gil to allow the Nightray family to adopt him, because Vincent had been searching for his long lost brother, who was none other than Gilbert. In truth Gilbert was only doing this to obtain Raven so that he could save Oz and Break was using Gil for his own personal gain, but in the end the result was the same and Gilbert was adopted into the Nightray family as Bernard's second adoptive son.

The Nightray Uncle's hate for the two boys grew to the point where he began beating Vincent and Gilbert for calling themselves Nightrays. Fred, Claude and Ernest followed their Uncle's influence and began beating Gil and Vincent as well, hating them with every fiber of their beings.

This malice grew to its peak around 10 years later, as Gilbert finally managed to form a contract with Raven. The Nightray Uncle was furious with Gilbert, as was Fred, Claude and Ernest, and Claude even confronted his father because of it, demanding answers. Vincent, however, was afraid that because Gil had contracted with Raven, the other members might want to hurt him because of it. Following his meeting with Bernard, Claude and Ernest, Vincent travelled into Reveille where he found Fred alone in an alley. Vincent then summoned his Illegally Contracted Chain, Demios, using her to decapitate Fred. With Gilbert's contract and Fred's assassination, the Nightrays were in an uproar, and so Vincent also claimed the life of the Nightray Uncle, using Demios to decapitate him as well, developing the title of the 'Head Hunter' along the way.

The Nightray Uncle was middle aged but still younger than his sister, Bernice. He had short blonde hair that he kept slicked back, as well as a large thick blonde mustache. The Nightray Uncle's eye colour is unknown because his eyes have yet to be shown, a quality which he shares with Zai Vessalius, Shelly Rainsworth and Fred Nightray. The Nightray Uncle wore a black overcoat with a large collar, as well as a tall black top hat, however the colour of the ribbon around the top hat's centre is unknown, as is the rest of the Nightray Uncle's wardrobe.

PersonalityEdit

The Nightray Uncle was known to have had a malicious personality, being willing to hurt his adoptive nephews because he did not agree with them joining the Nightray family. It is unknown how the Nightray Uncle's personality reflected at other times. Although, the Nightray Uncle's desire to cleanse the Nightray family's name by trying to eliminate the commoners brought into the family was a trait which he shared closely with Bernard, who had been willing to let his entire family die in pursuit of clearing the traitorous title given to Raymond Nightray following the Tragedy of Sablier.

RelationshipsEdit

Gilbert and Vincent NightrayEdit

Gilbert and Vincent were hated by the Nightray Uncle, as the Nightray Uncle believed them to be scum because they had called themselves Nightrays despite not being brought into the family by traditional means, marriage or birth. The Nightray Uncle was overbearing in his means of protecting the Nightray Family name, beating Gil and Vincent at any given chance.
