Cheshire's Dimension Arc
Edit
Break summoned Mad Hatter after Cheshire revealed himself and tried to kill him. Break attacked Cheshire with Mad Hatter's concentrated power and severed his left arm in the process. Cheshire attempted to flee, but Break stomped on his ribbons before he could escape. He sliced through the ribbons with his sword and sent Cheshire toppling to the ground, where Break then stomped on his chest to keep him still. Break told Cheshire that he had absolutely no manners, leaving his guests unattended for so long and suggested carving a lesson into Cheshire's flesh before fully summoning Mad Hatter.
Before Mad Hatter is able to inflict Cheshire's punishment, large cracks began appearing throughout the entirety of the dimension. The mirror that Break had been pulled into to experience his past (where he and Cheshire are now) shattered so both Break and Cheshire dived out and faced off once more. Cheshire insisted that he doesn't have time to fight Break because he had to go destroy Oz before he destroyed the entire dimension and declared that he would kill all of them. Break concentrated Mad Hatter's power into his sword again and approached Cheshire, but Cheshire lunged at Break, who quickly evaded the attack. Break noted how Cheshire had said that he existed for 'her sake', something which Break despised as it reminded him of Vincent Nightray. Break drew his sword attacked Cheshire again, severing his right arm and leg.
Break later began coughing up blood and he lamented on how this happened everytime he used Mad Hatter's power. He noticed that Cheshire was trying to move and explained to Cheshire that it'd be best if he didn't as otherwise even he could end up 'vanishing'. Break summoned Mad Hatter once again and explained that Mad Hatter's power is to negate and terminate anything related to the Abyss, in other words, Mad Hatter is a Chain born to kill other Chains. Regardless of this, Cheshire still vowed to kill Break, and Break realized that for Cheshire, there really wasn't such a thing as 'retreat'. Break then pulled out and jingled a bell, saying that he'd stolen it, what Cheshire was trying to protect, Alice's memories of 100 years ago.
Cheshire, left with no alternative, abandoned his human-like form for a much larger form before going after Oz, Gilbert Nightray and Alice. Break kicked Cheshire back, stopping his attack, and explained to the trio that Cheshire intended on sending them all to oblivion along with the dimension. Cheshire began crying and attacked again, however Break easily puts a stop to this by slamming Cheshire with numerous physical attacks. At that moment, Equus arrived and retrieved both Oz and Alice, before leaving and abandoning Break and Gil in the crumbling dimension. Gil summoned Raven to transport them to their own dimension, while Break used Mad Hatter's power to finish Cheshire off. The two returned home safely, but upon entering his room at Pandora Headquarters, Break found it in a mess. The curtains were torn to shreds, there were black rose petals everywhere and in the centre of the room stood a single black knight chess piece. Break pieced together that Vincent had kidnapped Sharon Rainsworth, and went after him.
Upon finding him, Vincent brought Break to the Nightray estate where he showed Break that he'd poisoned Sharon, as well as Echo (in order to show Break that the antidote he had would work) Vincent then revealed that he knew that Break had brought Alice's memories back with him from Cheshire's dimension, and so he requested that Break use Mad Hatter to destroy the memories, whilst dangling the antidote over the balcony. Sharon told Break that she wouldn't let him do this, but he simply kissed her forehead and told her it was alright before summoning Mad Hatter and promptly destroying Alice's memories. Despite this however, Vincent intentionally dropped of the antidote anyway, but Echo managed to save it just in time. Vincent tried to slap Echo for her defiance, but Break pulled her away and took the antidote from her. Following this, Break administered the antidote to Sharon and together they left the mansion.
Rufus Barma Arc
Edit
Oz had requested to speak with Rufus Barma in order to uncover the truth of the Tragedy of Sablier, but Rufus had not only invited Oz, but Alice, Gilbert and Break as well to meet with him at an opera house in Reveille. While Rufus played with Oz and Alice, Break stood at the balcony with Gilbert and watched. He eventually grew tired of the nonsensical show Rufus had put on and approached him while he rolled around on the ground, having a tantrum. He explained to Rufus that it served him right and then asked whether Rufus's true target was him, rather than Oz, as Rufus had previously declined all attempts Break had made to speak with him until now. Break then asked if Rufus had looked into his past, to which Rufus grinned and happily remarked that he'd finally found Kevin Legnard.
Break concentrated Mad Hatter's power into his sword, and used it to cut through Rufus's body, revealing it only to be a mere illusion. Break then slammed his cane on the floor and used Mad Hatter's power to destroy all of the illusions that Rufus had made in the opera house, before telling Rufus that it was time for him to show his true self. Rufus revealed himself and Break began coughing up blood because he had used Mad Hatter's power recklessly. Break threw a peice of candy at Rufus and told him that Dodo's power of illusion is but a mere trick that could only fool a child. Rufus argued that Dodo's illusions can make people die of fright, where as Mad Hatter cannot affect humans. Rufus and Break fought as Rufus wanted to see if that Break was truly Kevin Legnard. Rufus eventually succeeded in cutting through Break's suit and in the processs revealed a completed Incuse of an Illegal Contractor. Break then fell unconscious from overusing Mad Hatter's power.
Sablier Arc
Edit
In Sablier, Break came between Gil and Zai Vessalius, Gil having just attempted to shoot Zai. Break summoned Mad Hatter, who stopped the attack, while Break himself grabbed and pulled Gilbert away, allowing Zai to leave the area. After a brief fight where Break eventually brought Gilbert back to his senses, Break began coughing up blood once again and collapsed soon afterwards. Gilbert carried Break back to Oz, Alice, Elliot Nightray and Leo himself as Break was too weak. Gil laid Break down and tended to Oz, but Elliot found not long after, that Break had lost consciousness once again. Break was later carried by Gil out of The Hole and into a carriage bound for Reveille.
Break remained unconscious in bed for three days following their departure from Sablier, and upon waking he found that he could barely see anything.
The Second Coming of Age Cermony Arc
Edit
When Break was lead by the Head Hunter to Fang and Lily's location, he overheard Fang announce that Reim Lunettes was dead and that Lily had been too rough in using Bandersnatch. Break lost his composure and summoned Mad Hatter, before beckoning for Lily to come and 'play' with him. Fang immediately grabbed Lily and fled the mansion, making his way outside where they could better fight Break.
Break has Mad Hatter fade back into his body as he chased after Fang and Lily. He crossed swords with Fang for the first time while Lily stood back and watched as Break bests her friend, slashing his sword through Fang's torso, a fatal blow in normal circumstances. Fang got up however, having healed from his wound, prompting Break to realize that the Baskervilles were more Chain-like than human. After being attacked by Tove and as well as having to defend against Lily, Fang and Bandersnatch, Break realized that he wouldn't be able to survive the fight much longer. He summoned Mad Hatter in hopes of killing the Baskervilles, fully knowing that it would kill him as well.
Break is then kicked from behind by Gilbert, who summoned Raven to fight against the Baskervilles. The Baskervilles retreated as Break apologized for his actions and requested to work with Gil to take down the Baskervilles, planning to concentrate Mad Hatter's power in his sword, and use it to fatally wound them. Gil and Break soon caught up with Lily and Fang and they began battling once more, Break fought against Fang whilst Gilbet covered his back and fought against Lily. Gilbert used Raven's blue flames to isolate Fang while Break went after Lily, who drew Reim's gun and aimed it at him, however Reim screamed her name, distracting her long enough for Break to go in for the kill. Fang pushed through the flames however, and dived infront of Lily, taking Break's blow for her. Mad Hatter's power caused Fang's body to crumble and Lottie, riding on the back of Leon, arrived just in time to see Fang's entire body turn to dust. Lottie is deeply hurt by the loss of her friend, but knew that they had to focus on their mission so she grabbed Lily and they returned to the mansion.
Jack's Intention Arc
Edit
After the events at Isla Yura's mansion, Break had fallen unconscious for a entire week. When he awakened and heard about the attack on Sheryl Rainsworth by Rufus and the Baskervilles, Break vowed to track him down. Sheryl gave Break a thread woven by Owl that would lead him directly to Rufus, and so Break sets out, catching up with Rufus and the Baskervilles in the chamber of the Sealing Stone not long after.
Break fought Rufus, stealing back Sheryl's Key to the Abyss (that Rufus had previously stolen from Sheryl), managing to disarm him and then pin him to a tree, suddenly a scream echoed out from the chamber of the Sealing Stone, and Rufus revealed to Break that the body used for the Sealing Stones was actually Glen Baskerville's rather than Jack Vessalius's. He revealed that Jack, not Glen, had caused the Tragedy of Sablier and believed that the scream had come from Gilbert, theorizing that the head of Glen Baskerville had just been released from the Sealing Stone.
Break left Rufus and went to go ask Gil where Oz was. Rufus however appeared from behind, used Dodo to pin Break to the ground and promptly took back the Sheryl's Key to the Abyss. He saw Glen's head and explained to the Baskervilles and Pandora, the true events of the Tragedy of Sablier. Soon after, an explosion was heard as the sky filled with blinding light. When it faded, Gil ran from of the chamber to search for Oz. Break realized that he couldn't let Gil reach Oz, so he slammed his palm into the ground and used Mad Hatter's power to lift Dodo's foot off of him, allowing him to chase after Gilbert.
Description
Edit
Appearance
Edit
Mad Hatter appears to be a large eye floating under a tattered black cape. Mad Hatter wears a top hat that is very similar to the top hat that Break had previously worn (most notably when Gilbert ran away from the Vessalius mansion after the Coming of Age Ceremony), Mad Hatter's having a piece of paper that says 'Love and Peace' as well as another piece of paper that says 'Welcome'. There are also a few playing cards on his hat, as well as three roses, with their thorn covered stems wrapping around his hat. Holding all of this in place is a pin with five purple feathers sticking out of it. Along the collar of his cape, Mad Hatter also has a silver chain, with tokens of a broken mirror on it and a skull that appears to act as a draw string for Mad Hatter's cape. Break doesn't always completely summon Mad Hatter, and so he often seems like tattered black fabric or just whirls of black smoke.
Abilities and Powers
Edit
- Mad Hatter has the power to negate and terminate anything relating to the Abyss, which includes the Baskervilles, Chains and anything created by Abyssal power (like the bell of Alice's memories). But in exchange the it weakens the contractors body.

Trivia
Edit
- Mad Hatter is an obvious reference to the character of the same name that appears in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
- The fact that Break and Reim are close friends and are contracted to both Mad Hatter and March Hare is based on how close the characters of the Mad Hatter and March Hare were in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
