—Retrace LI: Lily&Reim |
Introduction
|
Lily (リリィ, Rirī) is a recurring antagonist from Jun Mochizuki's Pandora Hearts. Though a member of the Baskerville Clan, Lily is nonetheless a small child, one of if not the youngest of her kind. Her youth makes her open, and thus it is she who reveals that the Baskervilles are not part of the clan by birth but normal people exiled by society then chosen by the Abyss.
Born about a century prior to Oz's return from the Abyss in the village of Ébauche, Lily was the youngest of several siblings. Considered the weakest of her impoverished family's children, Lily was declared a cursed child, branded so as to discourage support for her, and then exiled from her village. Though Lily likely would've died on her own, she encountered the Droplets of Golden Light, turning her into a Baskerville. She then traveled to Sablier, where she met the people she'd come to consider her true family. Like the other Baskervilles, she was dragged into the Abyss during the Tragedy of Sablier. One of the last to escape, she would only reappear at the Baskervilles' Door to the Abyss ten years after Oz was dropped.
Appearance[]
Lily is a short (139cm/4'7"), pale skinned young girl of small stature. Her face is round and soft, not yet having gained the definition of form that comes with puberty, with large, round blue eyes. Short red hair falls to just beyond her ears, curling slightly inwards. While her bangs are long, they generally don't cover her eyes.
In most of her appearances, Lily wears a white shirt with black pumpkin shorts, held up with black suspenders. In addition, she wears black, thigh high stockings with dark boots and a black bow. Like all Baskervilles, she wears a crimson cloak to distinguish herself from a human. Being as young as she is, this cloak is considerably oversized on her.
Personality[]
Lily has a very childish and reckless personality. While she is ignorant to many things, Lily is normally a very cheerful girl. She considers the other members of the Baskervilles her family and cares for them very much, along with Glen Baskerville. She values family and friends above all else, as seen in her conversation with Reim, but despite that she doesn't think much about killing people, seeing them as her playmates rather than people with family and friends of their own. When Lily doesn't get her way, she pouts or throws a tantrum, crying often. Lily is overly reckless, as shown when she demanded that she and Fang kill Gilbert in order to set Raven free because of Raven's old ties to Glen Baskerville.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Lily possesses the ability to heal from most injuries inflicted from a source outside of the Abyss. Lily heals faster than the other Baskervilles because of her young age, as shown when she was shot by Reim and recovered seconds after but when Fang was slashed by Break he was still recovering when the fight resumed.
- Lottie also tells Lily that because she was a Baskerville, she warps the lives of the regular people around her, which was why bad things happened to Lily's family when she was with them.
Chain[]
- See More: Bandersnatch
Lily's Chain is a dog-like animal named Bandersnatch, after the creature referenced in Lewis Caroll's poems Jabberwocky and The Hunting of the Snark. Lily Illegally Contracted with Bandersnatch at an unknown point 100 years ago, and together they massacred many by order of Glen Baskerville during the Tragedy of Sablier.

Trivia[]
- "Lily" is a name derived directly from the flower the lily.[1]
- Lily is based off of the minor character Lily, the daughter of the White Queen,[2] from Lewis Carroll's Alice Through the Looking-Glass.[3]
- Lily's Contracted Chain Bandersnatch is based off the character Bandersnatch,[4] whose name is mentioned in the Jabberwocky poem[5] included in Alice Through the Looking-Glass, but only appears proper in the separately written poem The Hunting of the Snark.[6]
- Her likes are, in order, Lottie, Fang, Dug, Reim, Bandersnatch, and chocolate. Her dislikes are, in order, bitter things, Vincent, and Break.
- Her skills include climbing up tall people. She is weak when it comes to studying.
- Mochizuki's comment on her is, similar to Rufus Barma, her presence in the final stages of the story was healing to her as a writer. She was particularly fond of her moments with Reim and wished to draw them together more.
