The Nightray Dukedom (ナイトレイ
The Nightray Dukedom is the family of Elliot Nightray and his four siblings, Fred, Claude, Ernest, and Vanessa, and is served by the former's best friend Leo. Gilbert and Vincent were adopted as young children due to the former being able to Contract with the Nightrays' Black Winged Chain, Raven. It is lead by Duke Bernard Nightray.

The Nightrays have been a distinguished noble family for well over a century, being close to the Baskervilles as a result. One hundred years ago, Jack Vessalius plotted to cast the world into the Abyss out of his warped obsession for a Baskerville girl, Lacie. He failed, but his actions resulted in the death of Glen Baskerville, the dissolution of the Baskerville Clan, and Sablier being dropped into the Abyss, the event coming to be known as the Tragedy of Sablier. In the aftermath Jack extensively falsified the circumstances of the Tragedy to cast the Baskervilles as the villains who caused it and himself as the hero who vanquished them. He stole from them the Doors to the Abyss and using such power, established the Four Great Dukedoms and Pandora. To keep a close eye on his enemy household while limiting their power, Jack made the Nightrays one of the Great Dukedoms and deliberately gave them the Door with Raven, who could not be Contracted.
Since then the Nightray Dukedom has been scorned and ridiculed by those around them, and they have scorned back. As they couldn't open their Door to the Abyss, they were at a significant disadvantage compared to their fellow Dukedoms, so they needed power in other ways. The Nightrays started conducting their own research on Chains in secret, one of these facilities being the House of Fianna. One century after the Tragedy, one of the survivors, Vincent, appears near death at the Nightrays' Door to the Abyss. Duke Nightray takes him in and learns useful information about the past from the child. With Vincent's knowledge, Duke Nightray finds Gilbert—the one true Contactor for Raven—and adopts him, finally gaining access to their Door to the Abyss. However due to the two brothers being outsiders, the rest of the family despised them to the point of plotting to kill them. This family-wide attempt to kill the two adoptees lead to the first Headhunter incident, in which Vincent kills Fred and the Nightray Uncle for poisoning Gilbert.
In addition, Duke Nightray also learned of Glen Baskerville's reincarnation from Vincent, and soon after he discovered Leo. Knowing how valuable Leo was as a bargaining chip for both Pandora and the Baskervilles, Duke Nightray hid him away in the House of Fianna, where he and the youngest Nightray Elliot by chance met. Their befriending one another eventually lead to Elliot nearly dying and being forced to Illegally Contract the Chain Humpty Dumpty to survive. At that moment, Isla Yura and his cult, which the Duke's wife Bernice ended up joining, approaches the Duke and joins hands with him to assist in their Chain research. Elliot Contracting Humpty Dumpty caused the second Headhunter incident to occur, in which Claude and Ernest were killed as well. Vincent then staged an attack on Gilbert to prevent him from being suspected as the Headhunter, and the latter left the Nightray estate immediately after.
All this culminates in the current extremely tenuous position of the Nightray Dukedom. Four family members murdered, the mother having joined a cult in her grief, the father too obsessed with Chain research to care, the youngest son an unknowing Illegal Contactor, and their valet the reincarnation of Glen Baskerville.

Insignia/Marks[]
A black-bladed rapier (along with the Raven's Key to the Abyss inside it) is the very symbol of the Nightrays, and the Nightray's house also had a symbol in a form of more simply image design of their black-bladed rapier. Currently, their black-bladed rapier is in the Elliot's hand and later after Elliot's death, the black-bladed rapier fall on Leo's hand as new (and last) Glen Baskerville.
Some of the Nightrays shares many same of physical appearances features, like black and light-beige hair. In addition, along the series, most of the Nightrays seems to had favor in wear dominant darkly-coloured or grey or black clothes or accessories, as same with their presence which knowing by others as the 'dark' in nobility world in Pandora Hearts universe. (This is could seen easily in Raymond, Gilbert, Vincent, Fred, Claude, Ernest, Elliot and Vanessa's dressing way. The same thing also done by some of their valets, like Hans.)
